What is your position on the following animal and/or hunting related issues?
a) Hunting, including the use
I believe that a human being's relationship with animals historically and naturally includes
hunting with dogs, birds of prey, large and small cats etc. Hunting can be recreational,
animal population control, for sustenance, or sport.
b) Fishing
Fishing can be recreational, sport, sustenance, and commercial. I believe it is one of
those unwritten rights the Founders had in mind when they framed the 9th Amendment. I
do believe that these past times need to be done responsibly so that the resources
continue into the future for generations to follow. The responsibility should be in the
hands of the individual states and any consortiums they may deem necessary. and never
in the control of the federal government.
c) Animal medical research
I believe in the responsible use of animals in medical research and the abuses that
happen need to be seriously taken care of so that they don't re-occur. As much as I would
like to see this practice stopped, there would be no medical breakthroughs without it.
d) Animal ownership and breeding (including pet & livestock breeding, research animals,
circuses and rodeos)
I have been involved in all the above activities with the exception of research animals
and circuses. I believe those activities to be personally and globally rewarding, animals
teach us love, compassion and responsibility. They build our and our children's character
through ownership, 4H projects, and rodeo events. they improve our lives through their
abilities to help us with our handicaps. They give us hours of entertainment and pleasure
by their relationships with us, circuses, breeder shows, ad infinitum and they surely save
our lives through research.
