SHARRON ANGLE - United States Senate
* Do you or anyone in your immediate family own a dog, cat, ferret, etc.?
No
* Do you or anyone in your immediate family hunt, with or without a dog?
Yes, my husband hunts big game. He has hunted game birds in the past with a dog.
* Do you support any animal rescue organizations or shelters?
I have not personally contributed to such organizations or facilities.
* Do you philosophically support any animal rights or animal protection organizations? If
so,please identify the organizations.
No
* Do any animal rights or animal protection organizations endorse you as a candidate or
financially support your campaign?
No.
* Should Spaying or Neutering of an animal be controlled by the government through
legislation or should it be left between a veterinarian and their client to decide?
The decision to spay or neuter an animal which is under the care and maintenance of its
owner should be made solely by the owner in consultation with a veterinarian if
appropriate and not some outside government entity.
* Do you believe that animal owners should have their status as owners changed to the
status of guardians? As a guardian you do not own your animals, you are strictly a
caretaker?
No
* Do you support the states' prerogatives to manage their resident wildlife populations
and establish local hunting regulations, without federal interference?
Yes
* Do you believe in peoples rights to own (responsibly) any animal of their choice,
regardless of species: exotic or domestic?
In most cases, I would respond in the affirmative. However, there are examples where
pets i.e. reptiles like snakes, rodents and fish, have either escaped or been deliberately
released into the wild lands and have caused damage to the natural wildlife populations.
Responsible ownership of animals would be the best way to protect personal freedoms,
but unfortunately, there are always some people who are not responsible and cause
problems. The reason we have to have speed limits is because people are not
responsible to drive according to the conditions and government has had to step in to
regulate.
* Do you believe it is okay to discriminate against exotic animal owners through unfair
bans?
No, however there should be protections so that the exotics don't infringe on others
rights and safety.
What is your position on the following animal and/or hunting related issues?
a) Hunting, including the use of dogs
Hunting with or without dogs is a valuable recreational sport and should be protected.
b) Fishing
Same as a). Fishing in a valuable recreational sport and should be protected.
c) Animal medical research
Medical research should be conducted in the most humane manner possible while at the
same time affording researchers the full opportunity to gain the necessary information to
complete their research.
d) Animal ownership and breeding (including pet & livestock breeding, research animals,
circuses and rodeos)
Animal ownership and breeding including those other activities listed should be allowed.
