* Do you or anyone in your immediate family own a dog, cat, ferret, etc.?
We have a cat and an Aussie shepherd
* Do you or anyone in your immediate family hunt, with or without a dog?
I was bow certified as a kid but have not been an active hunter.
* Do you support any animal rescue organizations or shelters?
My Aussie came from a rescue as have all of my dogs
* Do you philosophically support any animal rights or animal protection organizations? If
so,please identify the organizations.
I support the World Wildlife Federation to protect endangered species and habitats
* Do any animal rights or animal protection organizations endorse you as a candidate or
financially support your campaign?
Nevada Political Action for Animals
* Should Spaying or Neutering of an animal be controlled by the government through
legislation or should it be left between a veterinarian and their client to decide?
I believe in spay/neuter with exceptions for those who wish to breed their animals.
* Do you believe that animal owners should have their status as owners changed to the
status of guardians? As a guardian you do not own your animals, you are strictly a
caretaker?
No
* Do you support the states' prerogatives to manage their resident wildlife populations
and establish local hunting regulations, without federal interference?
States should be free to manage their own resources, bearing in mind that many
populations are migratory and that minimum interstate protections may be necessary.
* Do you believe in peoples rights to own (responsibly) any animal of their choice,
regardless of species: exotic or domestic?
Generally speaking, yes, subject to method of acquisition, appropriateness of habitat and
safety of neighbors
* Do you believe it is okay to discriminate against exotic animal owners through unfair
bans?
The rules should be the same for everybody. The needs and character of the animals may
require special care depending on species
What is your position on the following animal and/or hunting related issues?
a) Hunting, including the use of dogs
Regulated hunting is a responsible way to control populations. Sport hunters should eat
what they kill
b) Fishing
Same answer
c) Animal medical research
Done humanely, the use of animals in medical research is necessary.
d) Animal ownership and breeding (including pet & livestock breeding, research animals,
circuses and rodeos)
I'm a lifelong animal owner. I raised and trained dolphins, sealions and whales. While I
would rather see them in the wild, I recognize that it's difficult to get people interested in
protecting what they can't see. I favor the responsible ownership and use of animals
across a wide spectrum but humane treatment must always be at the forefront. As a
prosecutor, I have gone after people who commit animal cruelty.
