MARK TRUDEAU - Nevada State Assembly District 1
* Do you or anyone in your immediate family own a dog, cat, ferret, etc.?
Yes! My wife and I are proud to say we have 5 children and one dog--soon to be two! Our
dog is an active and important member of our family. We havehad several dogs over the
years!
* Do you or anyone in your immediate family hunt, with or without a dog?
No. I was raised in Michigan and my dad was an avid hunter and sportsman. I joined him
on many excursions--camping, hunting and fishing, but to be perfectly honest, I never
really developed a love for hunting and fishing--though I always enjoyed spending time
with my dad and brothers. I have a brother who is an avid hunter in Michigan. I support
hunters and believe the sport to be great way to build family relationships, enjoy the
great outdoors, act as a steward of our natural and wildlife resources, and encourage all
who want to hunt, to do so!
* Do you support any animal rescue organizations or shelters?
I have not actively been involved in any such organizations. I have contributed, as my
means has allowed, from time to time, to no kill shelters for pets.
* Do you philosophically support any animal rights or animal protection organizations? If
so,please identify the organizations.
I belong to none and have not supported any. I have no ideology wherein I support animal
rights over any human rights. I believe in pet ownership and in being responsible as a
pet owner.
* Do any animal rights or animal protection organizations endorse you as a candidate or
financially support your campaign?
No! None! I would welcome your endorsement and contribution, if you believe my beliefs
are in line with yours and that I can make a difference in this state for the better!. My
election is not about ego, it's about putting government back in its place and restoring
true self-governance, liberty and freedom to the people of Nevada!
* Should Spaying or Neutering of an animal be controlled by the government through
legislation or should it be left between a veterinarian and their client to decide?
Government is far too involved in such matters and frankly, I think they should leave
such matters to pet owners and their vets. The pet population does pose a challenge in
some areas of the country, but this is because, in my opinion, of irresponsible pet
ownership, and not due to a lack of government providing controls. Government is far
too active in too many areas for my comfort!
* Do you believe that animal owners should have their status as owners changed to the
status of guardians? As a guardian you do not own your animals, you are strictly a
caretaker?
I think the notion of "guardian" is ridiculous! While we consider our dog a member of the
family and care for her as such, we have never referred to our relationship with her, as
her "guardian."
* Do you support the states' prerogatives to manage their resident wildlife populations
and establish local hunting regulations, without federal interference?
YES! The closer government is to the people, the better it operates. The Federal
government is far too removed from the needs of local peoples and the challenges they
face to be effective!
* Do you believe in peoples rights to own (responsibly) any animal of their choice,
regardless of species: exotic or domestic?
YES! Magician Rick Thomas is a friend of mine. He keeps, very safely and well, several
large cats--tigers, lions, etc. at his home in the northern part of the city. I think if someone
has a passion to own a large animal, exotic or domestic, they should be allowed to. They
should also be a steward in the act thereof, and be a responsible pet/animal owner.
* Do you believe it is okay to discriminate against exotic animal owners through unfair
bans?
NO!
What is your position on the following animal and/or hunting related issues?
a) Hunting, including the use of dogs
I'm perfectly Ok with this as a sport!
b) Fishing
Yes, perfectly fine! A great sport, even though I don't fish.
c) Animal medical research
I believe the use of animals for research is needed and that those firms involved with
such should be allowed to continue to test on animals. It would be my hope that they
would do so in a humane way, and believe that the vast of majority of firms engaged in
such research, consider and use humane treatment to the extent possible.
d) Animal ownership and breeding (including pet & livestock breeding, research animals,
circuses and rodeos)
I am not opposed to any of the above.
A couple of final thoughts. I would be interested in hearing from yourgroup regarding
issues that you believe the state Assembly should consider to correct bad policy and law
that may now exist. When elected, I would welcome the opportunity to study the issues
carefully and bring whatever corrective action could be applied.
I would appreciate learning if you have members in the Assembly District 1 area with
whom I can talk.
Thank you!
