MARK ANDREWS - Nevada State Assembly District 4
* Do you or anyone in your immediate family own a dog, cat, ferret, etc.?

At our home we presently have domestic cats, dogs and chickens. We have also>had
domestic horses, sugar gliders, quail, bunnies, ducks, tortoises. We also have living
around our home wild coyotes, roadrunners, bunnies, lizards, quail, doves, hawks,
snakes, desert toads, bees, sparrows, cactus wrens, pigeons and other creatures from
time to time.

* Do you or anyone in your immediate family hunt, with or without a dog?

No one here is currently a hunter, but I have been in the past.

* Do you support any animal rescue organizations or shelters?

We always rescue our domestic pets from local shelters.

* Do you philosophically support any animal rights or animal protection organizations? If
so,please identify the organizations.

No we don't - I do not acknowledge that there are such things as animal rights, however I
believe all animals deserve respect for their lives and I respect those animals who
provide food for others.

* Do any animal rights or animal protection organizations endorse you as a candidate or
financially support your campaign?

No.

* Should Spaying or Neutering of an animal be controlled by the government through
legislation or should it be left between a veterinarian and their client to decide?

It should be a private decision, not a government decree. We already have too many
things being decided and controlled by government agencies. However, I agree with
local communities setting their own standards through the democratic process.

* Do you believe that animal owners should have their status as owners changed to the
status of guardians? As a guardian you do not own your animals, you are strictly a
caretaker?

I cannot support this concept.

* Do you support the states' prerogatives to manage their resident wildlife populations
and establish local hunting regulations, without federal interference?

Local rule is more appropriate than federal rule. Nowhere in the US Constitution is
authority given to the central government to determine such things. 10th amendment!

* Do you believe in peoples rights to own (responsibly) any animal of their choice,
regardless of species: exotic or domestic?

Yes, however, I also agree with local communities setting their own standards through
the democratic process.

* Do you believe it is okay to discriminate against exotic animal owners through unfair
bans?

It is unclear to me what an exotic animal is. I don't know how to answer this question. I've
owned some strange creatures during my life and acknowledge to others the same
power. I also agree with local communities setting their own standards through the
democratic process.

What is your position on the following animal and/or hunting related issues?

a) Hunting, including the use of dogs

OK with me - makes hunting much more productive.

b) Fishing

I am a lifelong fisherman. Yellowtail is my favorite - trout is next.

c) Animal medical research

Animal research saves human lives - however, taking and using animal lives ought to be
undertaken with extreme respect for the animals and limited in its scope. They are living
creatures and the lives ought not to be taken lightly.

d) Animal ownership and breeding (including pet & livestock breeding, research animals,
circuses and rodeos)

OK with me under humane care and respect, including respect for one's neighbors.
