KEVINN DONAVON - Nevada State Assembly 22
* Do you or anyone in your immediate family own a dog, cat, ferret, etc.?
We have had dogs in the past. We have many friends who all have pets too. We now have
4 kids and simply do not have the time to care for a dog. We did have two fish but one just
passed away last week after 2+ years.
* Do you or anyone in your immediate family hunt, with or without a dog?
I do not hunt personally. We do fish however. I do have family members and friends that
enjoy hunting with and without dogs.
* Do you support any animal rescue organizations or shelters?
Yes. In the past (7 years ago) we have volunteered for Keepers of the Wild, the ASPCA
and the Dewey Animal Shelter. Currently we do not support any organizations (actively or
financially).
* Do you philosophically support any animal rights or animal protection organizations? If
so,please identify the organizations.
I believe in the rescuing of animals. They shouldn't just die because their owner was not
responsible or passed away. I do not believe that rescued animals should be put down.
* Do any animal rights or animal protection organizations endorse you as a candidate or
financially support your campaign?
Not at the present time.
* Should Spaying or Neutering of an animal be controlled by the government through
legislation or should it be left between a veterinarian and their client to decide?
Spaying and neutering should be a decision left up to the animal owner. All family pets I
have had have always been spayed or neutered (except the fish).
* Do you believe that animal owners should have their status as owners changed to the
status of guardians? As a guardian you do not own your animals, you are strictly a
caretaker?
If you have an animal your are its Owner.
* Do you support the states' prerogatives to manage their resident wildlife populations
and establish local hunting regulations, without federal interference?
I believe that it is the responsible of the State to manage their resident wildlife
populations. In the event there is federal grant monies that can benefit our state and its
wildlife, those issues I will look at on a case by case basis.
* Do you believe in peoples rights to own (responsibly) any animal of their choice,
regardless of species: exotic or domestic?
Yes. However, with exotic animals comes responsibility and accountability by the owner
which the owner would need to demonstrate they have the ability to provide.
* Do you believe it is okay to discriminate against exotic animal owners through unfair
bans?
No
What is your position on the following animal and/or hunting related issues?
a) Hunting, including the use of dogs
Pro Hunting so long as you eat what you hunt. I am against trophy hunting.
b) Fishing
Pro Fishing so long as you eat what you fish. I am against trophy fishing.
c) Animal medical research
Animals bred for research should be used as such.
d) Animal ownership and breeding (including pet & livestock breeding, research animals,
circuses and rodeos)
I support animal ownership and breeding so long as state and local laws and ordinances
are obeyed. Should any state laws require modification under my stewardship those
requests will be handled on a case by case basis and I will investigate both sides of the
matter and meet with my constituents prior to casting a vote.
