JONATHAN HANSEN - Nevada State Congress CD 1
* Do you or anyone in your immediate family own a dog, cat, ferret, etc.?

Yes. I grew up with dogs and cats and my parents currently have a dog.

* Do you or anyone in your immediate family hunt, with or without a dog?

I have been hunting since I was 12 years old and love to go.Unfortunately the deer and
other wildlife population has been reduced dramatically due to mismanagement by the
government. My wife's brother has a bird dog named "Duke" and loves to go pheasant
hunting.

* Do you support any animal rescue organizations or shelters?

I have never given any donations but am in support of their efforts, as long as they don't
put animal rights above those of humans.

* Do you philosophically support any animal rights or animal protection organizations? If
so,please identify the organizations.

Not sure what the question means but I am not aligned with any. I don't want to see
animals treated badly but don't agree with many animal "rights" organizations

* Do any animal rights or animal protection organizations endorse you as a candidate or
financially support your campaign?

As far as I know- none.

* Should Spaying or Neutering of an animal be controlled by the government through
legislation or should it be left between a veterinarian and their client to decide?

I oppose government intervention in most areas of private life and believe in individual
responsibility, not government compulsion. Let the individual decide, not the
government.

* Do you believe that animal owners should have their status as owners changed to the
status of guardians? As a guardian you do not own your animals, you are strictly a
caretaker?

Never. An animal is your property, but I still believe you should treat the animal with
kindness.

* Do you support the states' prerogatives to manage their resident wildlife populations
and establish local hunting regulations, without federal interference?

Completely. If nearly 90% of Nevada were not allegedly owned and "managed" by the feds,
there would not be so many problems. Let the state manage its own lands and wildlife for
recreation and hunting with will hopefully restore the wildlife populations.

* Do you believe in peoples rights to own (responsibly) any animal of their choice,
regardless of species: exotic or domestic?

For the most part, but when the safety of others is put in jeopardy there must be
consequences to the owner for harm caused by the animal. I don't like prior restraint, but
also have major problems with the lack of responsibility of some owners if harm is caused.

* Do you believe it is okay to discriminate against exotic animal owners through unfair
bans?

I believe freedom and the market should set the standards and greatly reduce
government interference.

What is your position on the following animal and/or hunting related issues?

a) Hunting, including the use

I love hunting but have never used a dog. I just wish I could get a deer tag but it seems
the government trend is to limit or eliminate hunting.

b) Fishing

I am not a huge fisherman but do enjoy it. I went fly fishing in Idaho>with my wife's family
and will be going to Alaska this summer to try my>luck. The land should be available for
use by the people.

c) Animal medical research

I'm not sure if I understand all this issues related to this subject. I>have heard good and
bad but my mind is not made up. If research is>necessary to help mankind I would
probably support it, but if not, it>seems like it might be a little draconian. I just don't like
the>government getting involved in private affairs unless constitutionally>authorized.

d) Animal ownership and breeding (including pet & livestock breeding, research animals,
circuses and rodeos)

I support the right of free people do manage their property as they see>fit, as long as
they do not cause harm to others.
