GABE JURADO - Nevada State Assembly District 27
* Do you or anyone in your immediate family own a dog, cat, ferret, etc.?
Yes I have one German Shorthair pointer, My uncle has two of the same breed. and My
aunt has two wire hair pointers.
* Do you or anyone in your immediate family hunt, with or without a dog?
Yes I have been hunting since I was a small boy. I grew up in Rural Nevada and it is a part
of my life. I actively hunt with my family and we have dogs that are a part of that family and
hunt along with us.
* Do you support any animal rescue organizations or shelters?
Yes the ASPCA is a great organization caring for harmed or neglected animals
* Do you philosophically support any animal rights or animal protection organizations? If
so,please identify the organizations.
I support the organizations that have a mission of helping animals not harming the
owners that have animals.
* Do any animal rights or animal protection organizations endorse you as a candidate or
financially support your campaign?
No
* Should Spaying or Neutering of an animal be controlled by the government through
legislation or should it be left between a veterinarian and their client to decide?
There is already enough government intrusion. Spaying and Neutering should be left up
to the owner and vet.
* Do you believe that animal owners should have their status as owners changed to the
status of guardians? As a guardian you do not own your animals, you are strictly a
caretaker?
No, being an owner you are also a caretaker. Having an animal as a pet is a lifetime
commitment. And with that commitment comes responsibility that a caretaker does not
fully encapsulate.
* Do you support the states' prerogatives to manage their resident wildlife populations
and establish local hunting regulations, without federal interference?
Yes again way too much Government, especially government that has no idea what is
going on with the individual states Wildlife population and ecosystem. The state needs to
be in control of its own wildlife.
* Do you believe in peoples rights to own (responsibly) any animal of their choice,
regardless of species: exotic or domestic?
Yes as long as it is done responsibly and the animal is not mistreated by taking it out of
its environment and put into a worse situation
* Do you believe it is okay to discriminate against exotic animal owners through unfair
bans?
No its not ok. Responsible animal owners should not be discriminated against
What is your position on the following animal and/or hunting related issues?
a) Hunting, including the use of dogs
It is a way of life for me, and a great way to bond with family and dogs. I would not be the
person I am today without this freedom. Hunting while adhereing to state laws is
paramount
b) Fishing
Fishing to me is the same as hunting. I enjoy them both!
c) Animal medical research
Unfortunately animal research is happening. I do not support the harm to animals. And
hope that a better system can be found. But we need to find cures for diseases and I
hope one day we can accomplish that without harming animals in the process.
d) Animal ownership and breeding (including pet & livestock breeding, research animals,
circuses and rodeos)
I have no issue with these, with of course my view on research.
