TONY DEMEO, Candidate for Nye County Sheriff.
THIS CANDIDATE IS ENDORSED BY THE NAOS-VA.
* Do you or anyone in your immediate family own a dog, cat, ferret, etc.?
Answer: Yes I own dogs, a Sheep and Goat, I am a dog certified master trainer for Police K-9's
at all levels and have also trained over 300 civilian dogs, and owners at times to advanced
obedience, mostly for free to teach responsible ownership and K-9 courtesy. I have shown
dogs at dog shows including Westminster Dog Show in New York. I have family members that
own, breed, show and an uncle that also owns and trains dog for hunting in Ohio. We have
horses on the property, which are owned and cared for by a family friend, these horses were
rescued from a junk yard in Newark, N. J. where they were mistreated.
* Is your animal spayed or neutered?
Answer: Yes since the K-9 will not be bred, I believe, in responsible breeding. I have bred
Akita's, and my sister currently breeds Akita's as well. Police K-9 was not neutered.
* Do you support any animal rescue organizations or shelters?
Answer: Yes Akita rescue, where they find homes for displaced Akita's, when the family cannot
have the dog anymore due to insurance policies, home owner restrictions or other issues.
* Do you or anyone in your immediate family hunt, with or without a dog?
Answer: I do not hunt but support the right to hunt. I have an uncle in Ohio that hunts, who also
uses dogs at times to hunt depending on what he is hunting.
*Do you philosophically support any animal rights or animal protection organizations? If so,
please identify the organizations.
Answer: I support responsible animal and ownership, I do not support groups i.e. PETA, and the
groups that support their terrorist philosophy, believing that animals have equal or more rights
then humans, and their actions.
* Do any animal rights or animal protection organizations endorse you as a candidate or
financially support your campaign?
Answer: With the exception of the Nevada Live Stock Association, No.
* Do you support intrusive pet legislation, such as the proposed federal law on breeding
frequency and a dog's parenting age (the so-called "Puppy Protection Act," H.R.3484)?
Answer: I believe in responsible Breeding. I believe in an educated consumer, I do not believe in
puppy farms since their breeding practices are not made to develop and enhance the innate
nature and drives of the individual K-9 breeds but for profit.
I also do not believe that you have to pass laws on everything, especially at the Federal Level. I
support education: Caveat Emptor, let the buyer beware, if they do not spend time to research
the origin of an animal which they will have for 10 years or more. Unfortunately consumers
spend more time picking out shoes than a pet.
While I support proper breeding practices which prohibit those outlined in Puppy Protection Act
I believe that responsible breeders and K-9 registering entities i.e. AKC should handle that at
their level with proper education and sanctions against irresponsible breeders.
* Should pets be granted legal rights and accorded "guardianships?"
Answer: No, animals should not be abused however; they in my opinion do not have the same
rights as humans.
* Do you support the states' prerogatives to manage their resident wildlife populations and
establish local hunting regulations, without federal interference?
Answer: I believe in states rights, I am a member and support NRA, and hunting associations.
* What is your position on the following animal and/or hunting related issues?
* Hunting: including the use of hunting dogs,
Answer: I support those who hunt, and the use of dogs, I admire humans and K-9's working
together as a team.
*Fishing:
Answer: I support those who fish, and the sport of fishing.
* Animal medical research:
Answer: There are many cases where animals are not required in research as there were in the
past. However, when it is necessary to utilize animals in research to test, humans have greater
importance.
* Animal ownership and breeding (including pets, livestock, research Animals.
Answer: I support the right for people to have pets, I believe in responsible pet ownership,
livestock management, and if absolutely necessary, research animals. In fact snakes are
considered research animals and are used to harvest anti-venom. I am supported by the Nevada
Live Stock Association.
