Answer: Yes, my husband and I own cats and dogs.
* Is your animal spayed or neutered?:
Answer: Yes
* Do you support any animal rescue organizations or shelters?:
Answer: Yes, we have previously supported different shelters whose goal is to try to find homes
for otherwise healthy animals.
* Do you or anyone in your immediate family hunt, with or without a dog?:
Answer: No
* Do you philosophically support any animal rights or animal protection organizations? If so,
please identify the organizations.
Answer: We support organizations to encourage spaying and neutering, adoption oriented
shelters, and animal rescue organizations such as German Shepard Rescue.
* Do any animal rights or animal protection organizations endorse you as a candidate or
financially support your campaign?
Answer: No.
* Do you support intrusive pet legislation, such as the proposed federal law on breeding
frequency and a dog's parenting age (the so-called "Puppy Protection Act," H.R.3484)?
Answer: I generally think that small animal/pet laws should be left to the state and local
government. As to prior efforts by the federal government to monitor this situation, the
legislation has often has often had unintended consequences such as having those who sell even
one litter of puppies considered to be a "dealer" and therefore subject to the <http://www.aphis.
usda.gov/ac/awapdf.pdf>Animal Welfare Act. This type of legislation does not always regulate
those who need the most regulation- the illegal breeders.
* Should pets be granted legal rights and accorded "guardianships?"
Answer: No however, pets do become cherished family members and owners should recover
more than the cost of the animal in the cases of intentional injuries to pets.
* Do you support the states' prerogatives to manage their resident wildlife populations and
establish local hunting regulations, without federal interference?
Answer: Yes
* What is your position on the following animal and/or hunting related issues?
Hunting, including the use of hunting dogs-
Answer: No issues with hunting or the use of dogs
Fishing?
Answer: No issues with fishing
Animal medical research-
Answer: Unfortunately, this is a necessary aspect of medical research. My concern in this area
is that the animals are treated well and that pain be minimized as much as possible. After all, if
the treatment is to be used on people, the treatment will be used in the least painful way
possible, so why not do testing tht actually mimics how the medication will be distributed to
humans (we do take painkillers with medication).
Animal ownership and breeding (including pets, livestock, research animals –
Answer: I love my own pets and most people love theirs. I do think that animals are living
creatures and should be treated with kindness. This is of course easier with house pets than
with livestock. I just think that although we use farm animals as food sources, we should try to
keep the animals in good, clean living conditions and have quick, professional slaughter houses
that minimize suffering
